According to The Hollywood Reporter, Taika Waititi is returning to Marvel Studios to direct and write Thor’s fourth outing.
The acclaimed director is on extremely good terms with the studio after reinventing Thor with 2017’s Ragnarok to great critical and financial success. The report adds that franchise star Chris Hemsworth is expected to star once again in the titular role. He would be the first Avengers member to get a fourth solo film, a feat we can only imagine other franchises will cross in the future.
Although this news will please fans of the franchise, this day also extracts a heavy toll. Unfortunately, the move forces Warner Bros. to put the Akira adaptation on hold. Sources close to THR suggest that the studio is willing to wait until the director finishes up his MCU flick.
The end of Avengers: Endgame put the Asgardian God of Thunder in an interesting position as a new member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s not clear if Thor 4 will take place before or after the event of James Gunn’s film.
Taika Waititi’s next project JoJo Rabbit hits theaters on October 18.
