At the D23 Expo, Variety caught-up with writer/director Taika Waititi about how he was able to convince actress Natalie Portman to reprise the Jane Foster role in Thor: Love and Thunder after possibly not have the most things to do after two previous movies in the role.
Speaking towards how making it more exciting for the actor to want to return to the character was very key to landing her.
WAITITI: “I don’t know. I just said to her ‘Are you interested in coming back to this time but doing something really different?’. Nobody wants to repeat themselves and nobody wants to play the same characters all the time.”
“I think for her coming back reprising that character but in a whole fresh new way would really interest anyone. In most of these films and you’re not a superhero, do you really want to keep doing that? I wouldn’t I’d want to come back and change things up.”

Despite earlier reports from Deadline that Taika has finished the script, he hasn’t according to the screenwriter just yesterday. He’ll next direct a feature film based on the soccer documentary Next Goal wins which will shoot October to December in Hawaii.
Thor: Love and Thunder is said to kick-off filming next August at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney, Australia once Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings completes its shoot there.
Returning alongside Portman will be Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson.
We’re also expecting a larger role for Taika’s character Korg.
The fourth installment is set for release on November 5th, 2021 and is expected to close-out Phase 4.
