A few months ago, various online rumors were making the rounds that former Fox-owned cosmic superhero Silver Surfer would be making his MCU debut in Thor: Love & Thunder. Something that sounded a little far-fetched at the time which is why we didn’t cover it and it likely was for good reason, because it’s untrue.
Writer/director Taika Waititi has taken to his Instagram account to answer fan questions during a Thor: Ragnarok watch party and debunked that Silver Surfer would be appearing in the sequel.
WAITITI: “Are we getting the Silver Surfer? I don’t think so.”
Taika also said that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange won’t be in the film. You might remember that Stephen Strange made a small cameo in Thor: Ragnarok.
WAITITI: “Is Doctor Strange in Thor: Love & Thunder? No.”
While he was slightly more coy about adding Beta Ray Bill and seemingly suggested that Star Sharks/Space Sharks could be showing up.
WAITITI: “I mean, I love Beta Ray Bill and it would be awesome to have him in the film but I just don’t know right now. Things are, you know, up in the air.”
Thor: Love & Thunder’s cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Taika Waititi, and the new addition of Oscar-winner Christian Bale.
Disney gave the sequel a new release date of February 18th, 2022 allowing them wiggle-room to potentially move production into 2021.
