Deadline has revealed two veteran characters actors have joined the cast of DC Universe’s upcoming Swamp Thing streaming series, which has Len Wiseman set to direct and James Wan producing via his production company Atomic Monster.
Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed) as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.
Madsen will play Maria Sunderland, who traded in her privileged upbringing for the swamps of Marais when she married local business magnate Avery Sunderland (not yet cast), but Avery’s life-time obsession with the swamp has driven a wedge between him and Maria. Her poised existence is shaken further when the return of Abby Arcane reawakens a deep grief over the loss of Maria’s daughter, Shawna, drawing her into the dark supernatural mysteries emerging from the swamp.
As its most prominent businessman, Avery Sunderland (Patton) serves as the de facto patriarch of his Louisiana hometown, always giving back to the community. His benevolent veneer, however, masks a ruthless determination to harness the power of the swamp for profit.
Virginia Madsen’s other credits include Highlander II: The Quickening, Dune, and Sideways. Will Patton is best known for films such as Arremgedon, Gone In Sixty Seconds, and most recently Blumhouse’s Halloween soft-reboot.
They will join previously announced casts members, Crystal Reed (Teen Wolf, Gotham), and Derek Mears (Predators, Friday The 13th).
Filming on Swamp Thing will take place at Wilmington, North Carolina.
An official release date has yet to be announced but it will begin airing next year on the DC Universe streaming service.
