Starz is hoping that the fourth installment of the John Wick film franchise will help get television audiences and fans alike excited for their upcoming spinoff series titled The Continental, based on the string of safe haven hotels used by assassins in the film’s universe.

Earlier in the week, it was announced by Starz President CEO Jeffrey Hirsh at the Television Critics Association (via Deadline) that the series could be airing as soon the release of John Wick: Chapter 4 in 2021 is out of the way.

However, Hirsh didn’t he mention a specific time frame (Deadline assumes late 2021).

HIRSH: “I had a meeting on a season pitch for this yesterday. We like the group of writers, and we’re trying to get it in the right place so it doesn’t interfere with the motion picture. It will air sometime after the fourth movie.”

A cast has yet to be assembled for the series but Lance Reddick has voiced an interest to get invovled and there had been some hints from Starz that Keanu Reeves might make an appearance at some point.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum left John battered/broken at the feet of Laurence Fishburne’s Bowery King as the two agreed to go to war with The High Table (still lurking in the shadows).

A returning cast has yet to be announced but there is a good chance that we’ll see Laurence Fishburne, Anjelica Huston, Halle Berry, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Jason Mantzoukas, and Asia Kate Dillion.

The only substantial High Table member we’ve seen is The Elder played by Said Taghmaoui, who seemingly “sits above the table” suggesting he’s in a leadership position.

Other members represent varying mafia/criminal syndicates most of which have yet to show up in the films.

The Continental isn’t the only spinoff in the works as Len Wiseman was recently hired to direct female-led Ballerina written by Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Army of The Dead).

The character was briefly teased in Chapter 3 as girls in the Belarus syndicate (where John Wick originates) are taught ballet.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to be released on May 21st, 2021, which means we’ll possibly start getting some production/casting news within the next couple of months.

Keanu Reeves is said to begin production on Matrix 4 next month which could suggest that filming on the fourth Wick movie won’t begin until the summer/fall.

We’ll certainly update when further news on John Wick: Chapter 4, The Continental or The Ballerina breaks.
