Matt Smith, best known for his role as Doctor Who and will be seen this December in Star Wars: Episode IX is currently in talks for an undisclosed role in Spider-Man spinoff film Morbius according to a new report by Variety.
If Smith lands the gig he’ll join Jared Leto who is playing Dr. Michael Morbius and Adria Arjona that is playing Morbius’ love interest turned vampiric foe, Martine Bancroft.
Daniel Espinosa will be directing from a script penned by screenwriters Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
There is a good chance Smith could end up playing the film’s villain which is rumored to be Loxias Crown or Emil Nikos.
Producer Matt Tolmach had previously stated during the press tour for Venom that they had planned on getting cameras rolling in February, which is next month. Filming is confirmed to be taking place in London where Spider-Man: Far From Home recently shot
Morbius is only one of many Spider-Man spinoff projects in the works at Sony with a Venom sequel on the horizon along with Black Cat, Silver Sable, Kraven The Hunter, Jackpot, and Nightwatch movies in various stages of development.
Venom 2 might end up starting production in late summer or fall as a script is being written by returning writer Kelly Marcel.
Morbius is currently without an official release date from Sony Pictures, but there is a really good chance it’ll be out July 10th, 2020.
