HN Entertainment has learned that production designer Jefferson best known for his work on studio comedies has joined Paramount’s Coming 2 America directed Craig Brewer and starring Eddie Murphy. Sage’s credits include Ghostbusters, Spy, Funny People, Knocked Up, This Is 40, The Heat, and Bridesmaids.
Brewer and Murphy recently worked together on Dolemite Is My Name.
Akeem (Eddie Murphy) learns about a long lost son and must return to America to meet his unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda.
Previously, we mentioned that they hope to get filming started on August 8th and could wrap in late October. There is an expectation that filming could be taking place in New York/New Jersey.
Oscar-winning Black Panther costume designer Ruth E. Carter confirmed on social media she would also be working on Coming 2 America as well.
Dave Chappelle was recently mentioned as potentially having a role in the comedy sequel.
According to a source close to That Hashtag Show, Dave Chappelle is the latest to join the decades-in-coming sequel. In Coming to America 2, the comedian would play a character named Baba. Baba is old shaman from Zamunda that advises King Jaffe and later Prince Akeem.
Paramount Pictures has recently bumped the release date to December 18th, 2020.
Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) is the prince of a wealthy African country and wants for nothing, except a wife who will love him in spite of his title. To escape an arranged marriage, Akeem flees to America accompanied by his persnickety sidekick, Semmi (Arsenio Hall), to find his queen. Disguised as a foreign student working in fast food, he romances Lisa (Shari Headley) but struggles with revealing his true identity to her and his marital intentions to his king father (James Earl Jones).
