Sony Pictures’ Morbius is currently filming in London with Oscar-winner Jared Leto cast in the titular role of Dr. Michael Morbius, a former Spider-Man villain turned horrific superhero. Dr. Michael Morbius is a chemist that is looking to cure himself of a rare blood disease and in the process of his experiments accidentally turns himself into a living vampire that feasts on human plasma. In various incarnations, vampires like Morbius were created by technology and not by supernatural means.
The cast is slowly growing.
Deadline now reports that the cast will now include veteran character Jared Harris has joined the cast of Morbius. Harris is likely best known for his various film and television roles including Mad Men, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Jared’s part is mentioned in the article but has played villains previously.
Triple Frontier’s Adria Arjona has taken the role of Martine Bancroft and Star Wars: Episode IX’s Matt Smith also has an undisclosed role.
Safe House and Snabba Cash director Daniel Espinosa will be helming the picture.
Morbius is the second Spider-Man spin-off to go into production after Venom with others in the works including Kraven The Hunter, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Jackpot, and Nightwatch.
A sequel to Venom is said to begin filming this fall with a new director to be announced.
Sony Pictures has given Morbius a release date of July 31st, 2020.
