Sony Pictures is having some box office success this weekend with Bad Boys For Life heading towards a big opening weekend after over-performing.
Some early tracking has been released by BoxOffice for Sony Pictures’ Bloodshot, the Valiant Comics film starring Vin Diesel is expected to open domestically in a range of $12-17 million.
While this isn’t a terrible number without knowing the film’s budget it is hard to say how much Sony needs to make here to turn a profit.
However, a saving grace could be that Vin Diesel is more popular with audiences overseas thanks to the Fast & Furious franchise and a booming foreign box office take could keep the film from flopping.
Sony had been developing a Valiant Comics cinematic universe starting with Bloodshot but films such as Harbinger switched over to Paramount Pictures, this seemingly would mean that Bloodshot might be part of this cinematic universe being developed at Paramount.
Bloodshot is the feature film debut of director Dave Wilson with a supporting cast that consists of Sam Heughan (Outlander), Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver, Alita: Battle Angel, Godzilla vs Kong), Toby Kebbell (Dawn of The Planet of The Apes, RockNRolla, Kong: Skull Island, Black Mirror), and Guy Pearce (Prometheus, Animal Kingdom, Iron Man 3, L.A. Confidential).
Sony has set Bloodshot’s release date for March 13th.
After he and his wife are murdered, marine Ray Garrison (Vin Diesel) is resurrected by a team of scientists. Enhanced with nanotechnology, he becomes a superhuman, biotech killing machine – Bloodshot. As Ray first trains with fellow super-soldiers, he cannot recall anything from his former life. But when his memories flood back and he remembers the man that killed both him and his wife, he breaks out of the facility to get revenge, only to discover that there’s more to the conspiracy than he thought.
