Sometimes a delayed sequel can do wonders at the box office and others can crash-and-burn.
Luckily for Sony Pictures, their gambling on Bad Boys 3 aka Bad Boys For Life bringing back Will Smith and Martin Lawrence has most definitely resonated with audiences as the film has officially crossed $400 million at the global box office according to BoxOfficeMojo.
Earning an impressive $405.3 million.
An excellent take for a film that reportedly cost $90 million to make.
This is a huge deal for Sony Pictures after box office hiccups recently with their Charlie’s Angels reboot and Men In Black: International failing to make an impact.
It’s also good news for the development of Bad Boys 4, as Sony is already working on that with screenwriter Chris Bremner as Smith and Lawrence are said to be attached to reprise their roles.
However, the studio hasn’t announced directors or a timeline of when they hope to shoot and release Bad Boys 4.
During a time when Sony is attempting to expand its box office tally with multiple Spider-Man spinoffs on deck with Morbius and Venom 2 releasing this year, it’s nice to see that an R-rated action film can still get asses in seats.
Paramount Pictures also has some good news at the box office too as their Sonic The Hedgehog movie is slowly creeping towards earning $300 million, considering the fan outrage when the first trailer dropped they ended up winning that PR battle and scored what could be a lucrative film franchise.
