Breaking Spider-Man news!
In a joint announcement via TheHollywoodReporter, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have announced they’ve reached a deal to keep Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for one more solo movie that will be part of Phase 4.
Spider-Man is back in action. After publicly parting ways over a deal gone south, Disney/Marvel and Sony are back at the table and have struck a deal that would see Marvel produce another Spider-Man film for Sony. The new film even has a release date: July 16, 2021.
The third untitled Spider-Man film is set to be released on July 16th, 2021.
Here is a quote made by Marvel’s Kevin Feige, who is expected to work on the film again.
FEIGE: “I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it.”
“Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
This should be exciting news to fans that were completely shocked when talks between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios broke down over the summer publicly, leading many to believe that Peter Parker would be exiting the MCU forever.
However, it looks like we’ll actually see that cliffhanger in Spider-Man: Far From Home playout as Spider-Man 3 will be part of Phase 4.
We now have J.K. Simmons back as J. Jonah Jameson and Sony has released that reveal online.
Hopefully, we’re going to see Kraven The Hunter, The Prowler, or a version of the Sinister Six in the movie.
It remains to be seen how this will factor into the other Sony/Spider-Man universe projects such as Venom 2, Morbius, Madame Web, Silk, Jackpot, Nightwatch, Silver Sable, and Black Cat.
Currently, it sounds like Marvel is making a distinction between their cinematic universe and Sony’s.
Here is what the release dates are for Sony’s Spider-Man movies so far.
- Morbius – July 31st, 2020
- Venom 2 – October 2nd, 2020
- Spider-Man 3 – July 16th, 2021
