Sony Pictures has announced that they’ve given an untitled Spider-Man/Marvel film a release date of October 8th, 2021 and haven’t given the project a title which is a little odd.
This mystery movie would have to begin shooting sometime this year.
The studio has already dated Jared Leto’s Morbius for July 31st and Tom Hardy’s Venom 2 for October 2nd.
There is also an untilted Spider-Man 3 (set in the MCU again) starring Tom Holland that will begin shooting this summer with director Jon Watts returning and was given a released date of July 16th, 2021.
Spider-Man: Far From Home ended with J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons reprising the role) exposing Peter Parker’s secret identity and framing him for the murder of Quentin Beck aka Mysterio.
The possibilities of this mystery 2021 film are sort of limited.
We know that screenwriter Richard Wenk (The Expendables 2, The Equalizer) was writing the film’s script and hinted that Spider-Man could be featured in the film.
However, Sony hasn’t announced either an actor or a director for Kraven.
Franchise producer Amy Pascal has also been open to the idea of circling back to Drew Goddard’s Sinister Six film that got killed when they attempted a second reboot of Spider-Man.
Other Spider-Man spinoff projects in various stages of development include Black Cat, Silver Sable, Nightwatch, Silk, and Jackpot.
The Morbius trailer confirmed that the spinoff will directly connect to Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home as Michael Keaton’s Vulture shows up at the end.
It remains to be seen if Holland’s Spider-Man will show up in Morbius and Venom 2, despite rumors.
One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.
