HN Entertainment has learned that the folks at 87Eleven Action Design will be working on the upcoming Sly Stallone superhero action film Samaritan directed by Julius Avery (Overlord).
The stunt team includes stunt coordinators J.J. Perry and Justin Yu, the pair recently worked together on Universal’s Fast & Furious 9 aka F9.
Perry’s credits include being the supervising stunt coordinator in John Wick: Chapter 2 along with working as a coordinator on other projects such as The Fate of The Furious, Vin Diesel’s upcoming Valiant Comics adaptation Bloodshot, Will Smith’s Gemini Man, Dwayne Johnson’s Skyscraper, Stallone’s The Expendables 3 and Melissa McCarthy’s Spy.
Yu has also worked on Bloodshot, Gemini Man, Miss Bala, Alita: Battle Angel, Baby Driver, Stallone’s Escape Plan: The Extractors, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for ABC/Marvel.
Samaritan’s cast recently added Javon Walton (Euphoria), Martin Starr (Silicon Valley, Spider-Man: Far From Home), Pilou Asbæk (Overlord, Ghost In The Shell, Game of Thrones), Dascha Polanco (When They See Us, In The Heights) and Moises Arias.
The thriller centers on young boy (Walton) who is out to discover if a mythic superhero (Stallone), who vanished 20 years earlier following a tragic event, is still alive.
The writing team working on the film’s script includes Bragi F. Schut (Escape Room), Mark L. Smith (The Revenant), Zak Penn (Ready Player One), and Chuck MacLean.
I highly recommend checking out Avery’s WWII action-horror film Overlord, which all sorts of fun.
It was recently reported by Deadline that once Stallone completes filming on this project he’ll be working on an action-thriller titled Little America (produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes) that takes place in a future dystopian setting which is being compared to John Carpenter’s Escape From New York and that is expected to begin production sometime in the summer.
Set in a dystopian future where America has become bankrupt and turned into a war zone, Sly will play a former Army Ranger hired by an Asian billionaire to find his daughter.
With the highly-skilled sister of the missing woman along for the ride, Sly’s Ranger must navigate the dark underbelly of Little America, a walled-off city within a city in Hong Kong where many Americans have fled.
It remains to be seen if Sly will be reprising his role as Ravager leader Starhawk (an original member of the Guardians in the comics) in Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy 3 with writer/director James Gunn now back in the saddle.
Samaritan will be released on December 11th by MGM/United Artists.
