Sly Stallone’s action franchise The Expendables has been having some hiccups over the last couple of years trying to get the fourth installment in front of cameras. At one point it was just about to shoot then they pulled the plug. More recently, it looked like all systems were a go this spring/summer until that didn’t happen either.
Sly has now posted a new tease on Instagram that Expendables 4 might be back on.
STALLONE: “All of those July 4th Fireworks got my mind going! I am starting to cook up The next adventure!”
There have been some delays with Stallone focusing on his Escape Plan sequels and the recent shoot for Rambo: Last Blood, his final outing as John Rambo. There also seemed to be some scheduling conflicts for supporting leads such as Jason Statham (Hobbs and Shaw) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator: Dark Fate) last year.
Last we heard, The Expendables 4 had been eyeing a shoot at Nu Boyana Film Studios in Sofia, Bulgaria. A popular spot for projects made by Millennium Films.
He has mentioned previously that he’s hoping to retire the characters of Rocky Balboa and John Rambo, the former doesn’t seem as solid as he’s suggested he’d like to see Rocky train a Mexican fighter prospect.
After working closely with Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2 co-star Dave Bautista on his two Escape Plan sequels, I would be shocked if Dave isn’t at least considered for a part in Expendables 4.
His latest theatrical action flick Rambo: Last Blood (also took a while to get made) is set to hit theaters on September 20th.
Almost four decades after he drew first blood, Sylvester Stallone is back as one of the greatest action heroes of all time, John Rambo. Now, Rambo must confront his past and unearth his ruthless combat skills to exact revenge in a final mission. A deadly journey of vengeance, RAMBO: LAST BLOOD marks the last chapter of the legendary series.
