HN Entertainment has learned that Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings has added Hong Kong costume designer Chung Man Yee to the production team.

His name might not be widely known in the west but earned an Oscar nomination for Best Costume back in 2007 for the stunningly beautiful Chinese period drama Curse of The Golden Flower.

I have to assume that he will be tackling the Mandarin and various costumes for the Ten Rings, I’m still betting that the Atlas Empire will factor into the film’s plot.

The crew news was also picked up by GeekVibesNation.

His other credits include True Legend, The Monkey King, The Assassins, Monster Hunter, The Monkey King 2, Monster Hunter 2, Confucius, The Great Magician (stars Tony Leung), Flying Swords of Dragon Gate, The Storm Warriors, and The Wasted Times.

Chung is also an accomplished production designer working on Shaolin, The Storm Warriors, The Warlords, and Tokyo Raiders (stars Tony Leung).

There is a small chance that we could see Shang-Chi’s production which is expected to shoot mainly at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney, Australia, to move production potentially to places like Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and even use a facility like Pinewood Beijing Studios.

The huge benefit of shooting in Sydney is that major Asian cities aren’t terribly far and hiring Chinese crew members would suggest that production would event move to China/surrounding Asian countries.

Directed by Daniel Cretton, Shang-Chi will star newcomer Simu Liu (Kim’s Convenience) as the titular hero, Hong Kong action star Tony Leung (Hard Boiled, Hero, Infernal Affairs, The Grandmaster) as the real version of The Mandarian, and Awkwafina (Jumanji: The Next Level, Crazy Rich Asians, Ocean’s Eight) in the unnamed female lead role.

Shang-Chang and The Legend of The Ten Rings is officially set for release on February 12th, 2021.
