Spider-Verse fans rejoice!

Sony Pictures and Sony Animation have finally announced the release date for the sequel to their Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.

The untitled second film has landed a release date of April 8th, 2022 as announced via the film’s official Twitter account.

Joaquim Dos Santos will direct a script penned by Dave Callaham (The Expendables) who recently worked on Marvel’s Shang-Chi and WB’s Wonder Woman sequel Wonder Woman 1984.

Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller will return as producers.

Details on this second film are currently unknown.

However, with Miles Morales’ origin covered we can assume the young hero jumps straight into his next adventure without spending all that time on his backstory.

An all-female spinoff (likely led by Spider-Gwen) is also in the works along with a Spider-Ham animated series.

Spider-Gwen voice actress Hailee Steinfeld is currently in talks with Marvel Studios to play the role of Kate Bishop in their Disney+ series Hawkeye, said to explore the backstory of Clint Barton.

Bitten by a radioactive spider in the subway, Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales suddenly develops mysterious powers that transform him into the one and only Spider-Man. When he meets Peter Parker, he soon realizes that there are many others who share his special, high-flying talents. Miles must now use his newfound skills to battle the evil Kingpin, a hulking madman who can open portals to other universes and pull different versions of Spider-Man into our world.
