One neat tidbit we missed from The Russo Brothers (Avengers: Endgame) panel earlier today is that Joe Russo teased that their fantasy animated Magic: The Gathering series for Netflix might get a live-action spinoff via Deadline.
The Russo Brothers said they grew up playing Magic and the adaptation was inevitable for them. The project may be animated, but Joe Russo teased that the series may grow into something else.
JOE RUSSO: “It’s an animated project with the potential to spin it off into live-action. It’s a game we love — we’re geeks and love Magic: The Gathering and we’re excited to tell stories with it.”
With Netflix’s Witcher series on the horizon, they want to tackle a less raunchy fantasy property that could be enjoyed by slightly younger audiences given the sex and violence known from the Witcher franchise and Magic being less mature.
This could be an interesting development as Netflix taking their animated projects and then giving them live-action versions would certainly be kind of awesome.
It was also announced today that they were developing a project based on the beloved Japanese anime series Battle of The Planets.
Their next feature film project will be an R-rated crime thriller titled Cherry and starring Tom Holland.
