When the Fox/Disney merger closed back in mid-March, fans were hungry to hear that Marvel Studios had already cast all the characters and were going to cameo them somehow in Avengers: Endgame.
However, the logistics of that fan pipe-dream was just never going to happen as Marvel Studios doesn’t work that fast or any other studio for that matter. Contracts and casting searches, for the most part, don’t hinge on cameos/button scenes but that would be kind of insane given the potential 10-year commitments involved.
We did get a small tease of things to came when Marvel’s Kevin Feige gave the Fantastic Four a brief shoutout during the Marvel Studios presentation in Hall H over the weekend.
This led to Variety asking Kevin about the Fantastic Four and if they had anything cooking.
FEIGE: “I’m extremely excited about those characters and about bringing Marvel’s first family up to the level and platform they deserve.”
According to Kevin Feige, there isn’t either a cast nor a script/story for it, which would certainly explain why it was only a mention at the end as a lot of the movies mentioned (excluding Guardians of The Galaxy 3) didn’t have completed scripts. I would assume some scripts haven’t even been started such as Captain Marvel 2 and Black Panther 2.

Kevin has previously stated that the X-Men weren’t part of their five-year plan, which could mean that they won’t be coming until 2025 at the soonest. We’re not sure if is the same situation for Fantastic Four as Adam McKay met them about a Silver Surfer movie and Noah Hawley might be allowed to carry over his Doctor Doom solo film from 20th Century Fox.
I’d imagine we’d likely see Fantastic Four before X-Men as there is less of a fanbase/baggage connected with those movies in comparison to the X-Men.
However, if they show up on the slate for Phase 5 or Phase 6 remains to be seen. It is starting to look like with how Phase 4 was laid out this weekend that future Phases might only be a two-year release window.
