A couple of things we missed from the Eternals panel from yesterday includes from character and plot details that were revealed on stage by Kevin Feige and the cast, who said the film be full Jack Kirby.

FEIGE: “Something entirely different something entirely new for the MCU, a group of immortals who have been on earth for 35,000 years. We haven’t met them before. This film is full Jack Kirby!”

Richard Madden, who plays Ikaris in the film was given the chance to sort of inform the Hall H crowd of a brief plot synopsis or background on the Eternals in this upcoming film, which suggests they’re an alien race rather than humans with altered DNA (like in the comic books).

MADDEN: “The Eternals are a race of immortal aliens sent here by the Celestials to save humankind from the Deviants”

Salma Hayek was introduced onto the stage as Eternals leader Ajak, a new female version of the Jack Kirby character.

Ajak fought Warlord Kro’s Deviant forces in Babylon 2500 years ago. He also had a strong presence in Central America, where the Aztecs believed him to be Quetzalcoatl and the Incas worshiped him as Tecumotzin, Lord of Flight.

This would seemingly confirm that Kro and the Deviants would likely be the antagonists of the film, Kro would later join their ranks and become a heroic figure himself.

What’s sort of interesting is that the Deviants cause Atlantis to sink during The Great Cataclysm, so there is a small chance that Atlantis might come into play with the film. So, I’m slightly curious if Marvel Studios will choose to set up ancient Atlantis in this film.

Eventually, only the Empire of Atlantis remained free on Earth. The Deviants launched an all-out assault on Atlantis, carried out by their human mercenaries (the Muvians who executed a naval invasion and the Lemurians who attacked via airships). To stop Lemurian drilling devices which were being used to penetrate Atlantis’ dome, King Kamuu opened the city’s magma pits. Which drove the Lemurians back, destroying their war machines and drills. Unfortunately, it made Atlantis seismologically unstable, resulting in its coastline sinking beneath the ocean waves.
