It was just revealed that Paramount Pictures set screenwriters James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, Amazing Spider-Man) and Joby Harold (Army of The Dead, John Wick: Chapter 2) had been hired to write two new Transformers movies.
And there seems to be a trade rumor what one of those projects could be.
Deadline is suggesting that James Vanderbilt’s project will be a Beast Wars movie and has been working on the project since last April, it would be based on the animated series from the mid-1990s.
The Vanderbilt project, from what I heard, is based on Transformers spinoff Beast Wars which are robots that transform into robotic animals like Cheetor (Cheetah), Optimus Primal (Gorilla), Rhinox (Rhinoceros) and more. Vanderbilt has been on the project since April. There’s news today that one project is based in the Bumblebee universe.
The show was interesting considering that Beast Wars didn’t involve human supporting characters and the animated series used very early CGI animation similar to other show Reboot.
It remains to be seen if Beast Wars will take place in the same universe as Travis Knight’s recent soft-reboot Bumblebee.
There had been some Optimus Primal concept art developed for Transformers: The Last Knight. The art comes from concept artist Furio Tedeschi, who confirms it was created for the film but was ultimately unused.
Beast Wars is certainly a new way to go with the franchise and gives audiences new characters to enjoy instead of recycling the same group from the Michael Bay films.
