The other day it was announced that Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson had signed-on to helm Skydance’s Bermuda Triangle thriller titled Bermuda, a former Sam Raimi project.
It was also mentioned that Captain America actor Chris Evans was circling a lead role.
Production information posted by Daniel Richtman suggests Bermuda with a hefty budget of over $150 million could begin shooting as early as this summer in Australia, however, a stage location or city isn’t mentioned.
Given the nature of the project, we would suspect that filming could be taking place at Village Roadshow Studios in Oxenford, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
This is the Australian facility which was used for Aquaman, Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Ghost Ship, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of The Dawn Treader, The Shallows, and Godzilla vs Kong.
Here is a synopsis for the film that has been making the rounds going back to when Ryan Reynolds was in the mix for the lead role.
When a seven-story sub carrying nuclear warheads goes missing in the Bermuda Triangle, Commander Vogel enlists the help of theoretical physicist Dr. Fisk. Using his grandfather’s research, they open up a wormhole to a mysterious island inhabited by all that went missing in the triangle – including sharks, Vikings, and Nazis – in the hopes of recovering the lost nuclear missiles.
It should be noted that Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill are being tasked to do rewrites on the script.
Bermuda currently doesn’t have a distributor but Skydance Media is known to work alongside Paramount Pictures.
Then again, they’ve been working more recently with Netflix for Ryan Reynold’s 6 Underground and Charlie Theron’s upcoming comic book film The Old Guard.
Red Notice is another high-budget action project at Netflix which is currently in production starring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds.
