‘Saw’ and ‘Stranger Things’ Actor Cary Elwes Takes Lead Role In Blumhouse’s Remake of Cult Horror Flick ‘Black Christmas’ – Will Shoot In New Zealand

Deadline reports that Cary Elwes (Stranger Things, Saw) has taken a lead role in Blumhouse’s remake of the cult horror film Black Christmas, which already stars Imogen Poots. They also add that the rest of the cast will include Aleyse Shannon, Brittany O’Grady, Lily Donoghue, and Caleb Eberhardt.

Cary Elwes has joined the cast of Black Christmas, the Blumhouse Productions remake of the 1974 slasher cult classic for Universal Pictures. Elwes will play a main part in the film but details of the role were not disclosed.

Filming will take place in New Zealand.

The original 1974 film directed by Bob Clark was released four years prior to John Carpenter’s Halloween and is considered one of the first holiday-themed slashers.

As winter break begins, a group of sorority sisters, including Jess and the often inebriated Barb, begin to receive anonymous, lascivious phone calls. Initially, Barb eggs the caller on, but stops when he responds threateningly. Soon, Barb’s friend Claire goes missing from the sorority house, and a local adolescent girl is murdered, leading the girls to suspect a serial killer is on the loose. But no one realizes just how near the culprit is.

Black Christmas has been set for release on December 13th by Universal Pictures.
