Skyfall director Sam Mendes’ next film will be the Amblin/DreamWorks World War I picture 1917, that will be distributed by Universal Pictures and just began production yesterday in the United Kingdom. We have another production team addition to share.
HN Entertainment has learned that the war film has added special effects supervisor Dominic Tuohy to the production team. Dominic’s credits include The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, Star Wars: Episode IX, Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Edge of Tomorrow, Wanted, and Captain Phillips.
Dominic wouldn’t be the only Star Wars alumni working on the film as art director Stephen Swain’s credits include Star Wars: Episode IX, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Solo: A Star Wars Story.
I previously revealed the team would include Oscar-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins (Blade Runner 2049, Skyfall) and Oscar-winning production designer Dennis Gassner (Skyfall, Blade Runner 2049). They were both recently confirmed by the studio in an official press release along with the bulk of the cast.
1917’s cast includes George MacKay, Dean-Charles Chapman, Mark Strong (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Zero Dark Thirty), Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, The Bodyguard), Andrew Scott (Spectre, Sherlock), Colin Firth (King’s Speech, Kingsman: The Secret Service), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange, Avengers: Infinity War), Adrian Scarborough, Jamie Parker, Nabhaan, Rizwan, and Claire Duburcq.
We posted some very basic plot details for the film as well.
The two young British soldiers are apparently brothers, Dean expected to be playing the younger of the two.
Also, essentially the female lead (will be supporting) of the film will be a young rural French girl named Lauri, who is hiding during the conflict. She most likely runs into the young men during their trek in Europe. This detail would most certainly confirm that the setting will indeed be France/Belgium as where most of the fighting took place.
Other supporting roles in the film include a handful of military officers.
HN Entertainment had confirmed filming on 1917 will be taking place at Shepperton Studios in Surrey, England.
