On Christmas Eve, Deadpool franchise producer/actor Ryan Reynolds revealed to Live With Kelly & Ryan that Deadpool 3 is indeed on the way as it’s currently in development stages at Marvel Studios.
REYNOLDS: “Yeah, we’re working on it right now with the whole team. We’re over at Marvel now, which is the big leagues all of a sudden its kind of crazy. So yeah, we’re working on it.’
This would suggest that Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are also still involved with the project, as expected.
Ryan had revealed an image of himself on social media at the Marvel Studios offices and had teased during the summer that Deadpool 3 might be coming in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Phase 5.
Screenwriter Paul Wernick had previously mentioned they had meetings with studio and got assurances from them that the future films would very much stay within that mature universe established in the first two installments.
Disney and Marvel Studios have sort of echoed that they plan to keep the movies R-rated.
Ryan’s next feature film to be released will be Free Guy (penned by the Deadpool writers) and is about to kick-off production on his upcoming action film Red Notice co-starring Dwayne Johnson (Black Adam) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman 1984) for Netflix.
If Deadpool 3 is indeed in development we’ll likely hear about an official announcement in the very near future, however, if it’s indeed part of Phase 5 that likely means we’ll have a bit of wait before it is actually released in theatres.
Kevin Feige has suggested that the main X-Men movie isn’t part of their five-year plan and remains to be seen if WandaVision will be where the mutants are going to be introduced into the MCU or elsewhere.
His latest film 6 Underground directed by Michael Bay is currently streaming on Netflix.
