Some interesting Phase 4 rumors have recently made their way to Twitter via Roger Wardell concerning potential new characters and film projects coming to the MCU in the near future. Normally, we wouldn’t take notice of rumors being spread from a Twitter account without any affiliation to an outlet/site, however, if you take a look at previous posts Roger did have a bunch of Avengers: Endgame information (mostly spoilers) in early December which mostly panned out. It certainly gives these other tweets a bit more credibility, but we’ll still treat has huge rumors for the moment.

These are simply rumors for the moment but they do make some sense and wouldn’t be terribly shocking if they came together.

First, he gives some potential updates concerning Doctor Strange 2 which includes characters coming such as Dormmau’s daughter Clea, who Strange falls in love with that is suggested to be played by an Asian actress. Jericho Drumm aka Brother Voodoo (eventually takes over the Sorcerer Supreme mantle from Strange) is expected to appear as well, his brother Daniel was killed in the first movie protecting the New York City Sanctum. Also, the possible return of Strange’s awesome yellow gloves and Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One.

This isn’t terribly crazy has co-writer and director Scott Derrickson has mentioned on Twitter in the past he’d like to see both Clea and Jericho in future installments.

For Guardians of The Galaxy 3, some of the rumored characters include Drax’s daughter Moondragon, Rocket’s Otter girlfriend Lylla, and The High Evloutary as possibly Rocket’s creator.

Interesting enough, Lylla has already appeared in the Guardians of The Galaxy Telltale game and was an Easter Egg in the original film during the Nova Corps. lineup scene.

Drax has established he has a daughter in previous movies, killed by Ronin The Accuser. Moondragon’s inclusion in the third movie would make a lot of sense given the family theme of the Guardians movies along with consistent chatter from directors and producers about bringing in LGBTQ characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Moondragon and Phyla-Vell’s version of Quasar (James Gunn has tased this character recently) just happen to be an openly lesbian couple in the comics. The Drax/Moondragon angle could have been a huge reason why Dave Bautista refused to participate in a third movie without Gunn and threatened to walk.

Dave certain wanted to see Moondragon in the films when asked by ScreenRant.

“Yeah! Of course! I would love to tell more of the backstory of Drax. Whether or not that will happen, I don’t know. I don’t know if they’ll ever really focus on Drax, but I hope so. I think it’s a really interesting story.”

There are also some other rumblings Roger has posted about possible future film franchises that might be in the works. As with all of these tweets take with a large pinch of salt. Roger seems to think that Black Knight and Thunderbolts are going to be getting franchises as well.

The roster on the Thunderbolts seemingly includes Daniel Bruhl’s Zemo, Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost, Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer, William Hurt’s General Thunderbolt Ross (Red Hulk?), and Tim Roth’s Abomination. Having Hulk villain The Leader aka Dr. Samuel Sterns as the main bad guy, I would assume still played by Tim Blake Nelson.

The latter could make a lot of sense given that we know that James Gunn revealed to ScreenRant in 2014 that he told Kevin Feige he’d really wanted to make a Thunderbolts movie, it’s certainly reflected in his recent choice to direct The Suicide Squad as his next film.

“Thunderbolts? I will tell you, one time I was saying to Kevin [Feige], we were sitting on set together on one of the days he visited and I said, ‘You know, I really want to make Thunderbolts,’ and he said, ‘James, if Guardians does well you’ll be able to do whatever you want’, so we’ll see what happens.”

Thunderbolt Ross leading a team makes sense given his inclusion in the recent incarnation and they clearly could be named after him. Ross eventually becomes Red Hulk in the comics and at one time The Russo Brothers considered adding Red Hulk in Captain America: Civil War, but ultimately decided against it as revealed by Joe Russo to ComicBook (same with Iron Spider that eventually showed up in Avengers: Infinity War).

“We had so many characters in that movie as it was. We consider everything, obviously, but with so many characters in that movie as it was to try and entertain adding another character and to get to the Red Hulk, you have to add a back story. You have to substantiate the narrative to get to that. [Thaddeus Ross], on our list of priorities, he was their sort of as the government’s agenda and not to add another complicated super-powered character to the mix.”

If Marvel is indeed going to carry on the Avengers team into Phase 4 they’re going to need a wave of new characters and Black Knight happened to be a member of the team around the same time as Sersi and Hercules (may show up in The Eternals movie). In theory, Black Knight might make sense if they’ll want to bring in other established Avengers moving forward mixed in with Young Avengers like Cassie Lang, Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and maybe even Sam Alexander aka Nova (a Nova movie is now rumored to be in development).

Opening the door to the Quantum Realm and the Multiverse allows a lot of wiggle-room for Marvel to add random characters.

The landscape of the Marvel Cinematic Universe post-Avengers: Endgame seems riskier than ever, but the franchise and Kevin Feige have yet to seriously mess-up along with proving they know how to execute this ambitious plans of theirs. Hopefully, we’ll hear soon from Feige what these Phase 4 plans actually are so we have a better idea of what is really coming down the road.
