Variety reports that Bourne trilogy screenwriter Tony Gilroy will write the first episode of the untitled Star Wars series for Disney+ that will focus on Deigo Luna’s Cassian Andor, a Rebellion spy from the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
He’ll also direct multiple episodes of the series.
The planned Disney Plus series centered on “Rogue One” character Cassian Andor is bringing in the film’s co-writer, Tony Gilroy, Variety has learned exclusively.
Gilroy is set to write the pilot for the series in addition to directing multiple episodes. He will work alongside Stephen Schiff, who remains onboard as showrunner. No official premiere date has been set, but Disney had previously indicated the show would debut in 2021.
Tony Gilroy was notoriously involved with the extensive reshoots or Rogue One Wars Story along with the rewrites.
Alan Tudyk is also officially returning as the sassy droid K2SO.
During D23 Expo 2019, it was announced by Lucasfilm that the series would begin filming in the United Kingdom next year. Possibly at the new Dagenham Studios facility that recently got a massive expansion and is said to be a new stage location for Star Wars projects (both film and television).
An air date on Disney+ has yet to be announced but 2021 sounds about right.
The Mandalorian will be the first Star Wars series and will begin airing on November 12th with a second season already greenlit by Disney/Lucasfilm.
