Back in March, I was able to confirm a rumor that was circulating online that Desperado and Alita: Battle Angel director Robert Rodriguez had worked on the Star Wars series The Mandalorian for Lucasfilm. The series had wrapped in March would have meant he had already directed his episode/episodes.
This came after the original rumor claimed that James Mangold was part of the directing group and he took to Twitter to debunk his involvement. We had doubled-checked the Rodriguez information to be correct while the Mangold stuff seemed to be bogus.
Rodriguez has now confirmed this via Twitter and posted an image of himself with The Child aka Baby Yoda.
RODRIGUEZ: “I am truly humbled to say I have now had the very rare privilege of directing the biggest star in the universe.”

Robert is friends with The Mandalorian producer, writer, and director Jon Favreau, so it wasn’t shocking to us that he’d want to tackle an episode given that he’s a big science fiction fan and recently tackle the expansive manga universe of Battle Angel for James Cameron.
We can’t wait to see what Robert has done with his episode.
