Yesterday, it was reported by Variety that BlacKkKlansman breakout star John David Washington would be taking the first leading role in Christopher Nolan’s untitled mystery action blockbuster for Warner Bros.
Today, Collider says that British actor Robert Pattinson is another actor taking a lead role in the super-secret project said to be Inception meets North By Northwest. While they’ve revealed Pattinson is to star opposite Washington, nothing else about the project’s plot or tone is detailed in their report.
The pieces of Christopher Nolan‘s next cinematic puzzle are starting to fall into place, as Robert Pattinson is poised to star opposite John David Washington in the next film from the director of Inception, Collider has exclusively learned.
They do, however, mention an older male lead role is coming while not naming who that could be.
My understanding is that Pattinson and Washington (BlacKkKlansman) will play the two leads, and there will also be an age-appropriate female lead, as well as an older male co-star.
Pattinson has spent the last decade trying to distance himself from his connections to the Twilight franchise by taking on various independent and smaller movies with strong directors such as David Cronenberg to expand/develop his acting profile including recent projects like David Michôd’s (Animal Kingdom) The King, James Gray’s The Lost City of Z, and an upcoming horror film The Lighthouse from writer-director Robert Eggers (The Witch).
The film is said to be yet another IMAX event, not unlike Nolan’s WWII-set Dunkirk. I’m really hoping the writer-director returns to character-focused stories as Dunkirk felt to me like a technical exercise masked as a big studio film. Production is expected to begin this summer with Dunkirk cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema possibly reuniting with Nolan on the project.
Warner Bros. has set the untitled film for a release on July 17th, 2020.
