There might be some new casting news concerning the new Resident Evil feature film reboot.
A new casting article from The Illuminerdi claims that British actress Hannah John-Kamen (Killjoys, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) is being offered the key role of Jill Valentine, which is expected to see the character return in multiple films alongside other characters.
The actress is likely best known to audiences as the Marvel character Ava Starr aka Ghost in Ant-Man & The Wasp.
Jill Valentine had been played by Sienna Guillory in Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Resident Evil: Afterlife, and Resident Evil: Retribution.
They also reaffirm previous information that fellow British actress Kaya Scodelario (Skins, Crawl, Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) is still in the mix to play Claire Redfield.
Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down) is directing from a script that was penned by screenwriter Greg Russo, who recently wrote the Mortal Kombat reboot for New Line Cinema. When filming will begin is unclear as the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted film and television productions globally.
Video game feature film adaptations don’t exactly have a great reputation for their quality but the Resident Evil films managed to develop a loyal following as they always made money for Screen Gems. However, the Paul W.S. Anderson films skewed more in the action category and had very little similarities to the video game counterparts.
I’m hoping they end up focusing more on the horror elements from the games rather than action.
What do you hope to see in the new Resident Evil film?
