Rebel Wilson Joins Universal’s Musical ‘Cats’

Rebel Wilson is joining Universal and Working Titles long adaptation of Cats. Wilson is set to play will play Jennyanydots, who has a reputation for being lazy.

The film, which has been in development for years, is finally expected to begin production later this year in London. It is not known if the film will use full CGI or with a mix of live-action as previous reported.

Cats is based on T.S. Eliot’s poetry collection Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. First performed in the West End in 1981, the musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles who must decide which one of them will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life.

Cats is one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history and was previously adapted for television in 1998. The show has been presented in over 30 countries, translated into more than 20 languages and seen by more than 73 million people worldwide.

The film directed by Tom Hooper (Les Misérables), is also set to star, Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Judi Dench and Ian McKellen.

Cats is set to hit theaters on December 20, 2019.
