It is starting to look like we know who Ray Winstone is playing in the upcoming solo Black Widow movie after months upon months of mystery surrounding his role.
In the recent issue of EmpireMagazine (via DigitalSpy), it’s stated that Ray Winstone is playing the role of Dreykov and is leading The Red Room program. The name should be familiar to fans as it’s the name referenced by Loki in the original Avengers installment as he’s running down all the awful things Clint told him Natasha has done while under his control.
LOKI: “Can you wipe out that much red? Dreykov’s daughter, São Paulo, the hospital fire… Barton told me everything.”
This could lend itself a personal angle to Dreykov’s beef with Natasha, now that she doesn’t exactly have the protection of the United States, S.H.I.E.L.D., The World Council, or Avengers anymore after the events of Captain America: Civil War.
It is worth noting that this information is being circulated by multiple outlets without a scanned hard copy or a write-up from Empire themselves, but the latest issue does focus on Black Widow and could be accurate.
However, it’s interesting how both Taskmaster and Dreykov can be running The Red Room at the same time the former revealed in the latest trailer. Since it’s assumed that O-T Fagbenle’s Agent Mason is the one in the Taskmaster suit in the film.
Natasha’s past catching up her seems to be the big theme to the solo flick as she reunites with her makeshift family (Yelena, Melina, and Alexei) and we already know that they’ve shot scenes in Budapest, even though those aren’t likely to be connected to Clint as Taskmaster was spotted on the set for that shoot.
We’ll have to keep guessing and waiting as Disney recently pulled Black Widow’s May 1st release date due to the closures of U.S. and international theaters because of the coronavirus pandemic. When they’ll re-open and when Disney plans on giving Widow a new date has yet to be determined.
