We just learned from TheHollywoodReporter that Stranger Things actor David Harbour would be playing a role in Marvel’s upcoming solo Black Widow film directed by Cate Shortland and starring Scarlett Johansson.

Now, Variety confirms that Rachel Weisz (The Favourite, Bourne Legacy, The Mummy) is circling a role in Black Widow, the outlet seems to not include what the role is. This would confirm the previous reporting by ThatHashtagShow that first mentioned Rachel was wanted for a role on the comic book film.

Fresh off her Oscar nomination for “The Favourite,” Rachel Weisz has set her sights on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as she is in early talks join Scarlett Johansson in Marvel’s “Black Widow” standalone movie.

The part from other sources like ThatHashtagShow is said to be that of the film’s secondary villain a role they had predicted would go to Rachel.

The studio is interested in exploring some big names here with Rachel Weisz in the mix for the female role…

Secondary Antagonist

While the film’s lead villain will be a male, the studio is also looking for an actress in her 50s to play a smaller, villainous role. The character was only briefly described as a “conniving female villain”, leading us to wonder if she’s possibly a relic of the KGB’s Red Room and someone much more familiar to the Black Widow.

Florence Pugh (The Little Drummer Girl) was also revealed recently in the role of a fellow female spy.

Filming will begin this June in London at Pinewood Studios UK.

A release date has yet to be made official for Black Widow.
