While speaking with Josh Horowitz on his podcast HappySadConfused, Quentin Tarantino talked about his current release of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and the possibility of making Kill Bill 3 after recently chatting with Uma Thurman about it.
He also talked about a handful of his existing film characters he still thinks about and dropped some nifty what-if tidbits about where he would see Brad Pitt’s Aldo Raine and Christoph Waltz’s Hans Landa about twenty years after the end of World War II.
First, he reveals that he’d like to see Landa solving mysteries on Nantucket island.
TARANTINO: “I’ve wondered often about what happens to Landa in Nantucket. He wears a wig with bangs to cover his mark.”
“Also, he’s known as the hero of World War II because he brought down, he and Aldo Raine brought down Hitler. Then that is the history, that’s in the history books. We know that’s not true.”
“I don’t think I’ll ever do it, but I liked the idea of writing a series of Hans Landa mysteries. So it’s like twenty years after World War II and he’s living on Nantucket and a murder happens on the island. He’s thee, detective, he’s the amateur detective even though he’s one of the great detectives of the world and he figures out who the murderer is. A series of Hans Landa mysteries.”
Not to leave out Pitt’s Aldo, meaning that he’d likely land a film career like other war heroes.
TARANTINO: “And I thought that Brad Pitt would come back too, Aldo Raine would come back to America and like Audie Murphy like Fredrick Zoller, he would kind of get a movie career for being the hero of World War II. Aldo can pull it off.”
It’s unlikely he’d ever explore this stuff beyond books, but it is certainly interesting to hear him continue the lives of his characters even if it’s simply in his head.
