Today, Paramount Pictures has announced that production in Tokyo, Japan for their G.I. Joe spinoff/reboot G.I. Joe Origins: Snake Eyes has officially begun, as the cast and director appeared for a photo-op posted on the franchise’s official Twitter account in the early morning.
The film’s stunt coordinator on this section of the shoot is Kenji Tanigaki.

Filming had been previously taking place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in the fall.
It’s quite expensive for foreign productions to shoot scenes in Japan, so it’s a big deal that Snake Eyes will be spending a good portion of the production there.
HN Entertainment first revealed that Snake Eyes would be featuring a rebooted version of the villain called The Baroness, a key figure in the terrorist group Cobra, which has been confirmed by the trades as actress Ursula Corbero has landed the role.

This movie will explore the origins of the relationship between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow along with their eventual falling-out leading to the pair ultimately becoming enemies. Also, Snake Eyes is said to be taking more of a martial arts flare compared to the previous G.I. Joe movies.
There have been reports that a third G.I. Joe movie is also in the works with Chuckles said to be the lead character in that film, that is also expected to act as a soft-reboot of the franchise.
It’ll be interesting to see how much of this third main Joe movie will have plot elements/seeds dropped within Snake Eyes. We have to assume that Henry Golding, Samara Weaving, Andrew Koji, and Ursula Corbero will be carrying over their Snake Eyes in G.I. Joe 3.
Snake Eyes will be released in theaters on October 23rd, 2021.
