During Paramount Pictures’ CinemaCon presentation they had some old footage of Snake Eyes mixed in, presumably to tease the upcoming solo spinoff featuring the fan-favorite G.I. Joe team member. While there had been some suggestion of a spring start on Snake Eyes that doesn’t look to be happening as producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura gave SlashFilm and update on the status of the film which is now more likely beginning to film late summer or early fall.
SLASH FILM: When does Snake Eyes start?
DI BONAVENTURA: We probably start late summer, early fall.
Lorenzo also gave a little bit away suggesting that Snake Eyes will indeed speak for a period of time in the origin film.
SLASH FILM: Are you going to be able to keep him silent as the star of a film?
DI BONAVENTURA: [LAUGHS] I’m not going to spoil that one. I will say this. Part of the opportunity of going back is to discover who is this guy. For me, I’m most interested in seeing it as an origin story. If you see it as an origin story, you do get to see him speak for X period of time.
What we do know for sure is that they’ll be aiming to cast a new actor in the role of Snake Eyes as Ray Park is a bit too old to play the character unmasked.
The film will be Robert Schwentke from a script penned by Evan Spiliopoulos.
We previously revealed the studio was considering filming in Vancouver, Los Angeles, and Japan.
Paramount Pictures has yet to give Snake Eyes an official release date.
