Director John McTiernan is reporting returning to both the science fiction and action genre according to a new report from ScreenDaily. McTiernan will write and direct a new feature film titled Tau Ceti 4, which is starring Uma Thurman (Kill Bill, Gattaca) and Aussie actor Travis Fimmel (Vikings, Raised By Wolves)
Uma Thurman and Travis Fimmel will star for John McTiernan in the sci-fi Tau Ceti 4, a hot sales title that IMR International will introduce to Cannes buyers next week.
McTiernan (Die Hard, Predator, The Thomas Crown Affair) will direct from his screenplay and is producing alongside Gail Sistrunk, Anthony Katagas, and Thurman.
The project sounds right in John’s wheelhouse and could be his return to genre filmmaking. I’m slightly curious if they’ll attempt a grounded look for the planet or something a little more design heavy and out there.
Tau Ceti 4 takes place on the war-torn fourth planet in the remote Tau Ceti solar system, where three heavily armed strangers show up, size up the various oligarchs and military thugs who terrorize the place and set about killing every single one of them.
Fimmel is starring in the Ridley Scott science fiction series Raised By Wolves for TNT.
Until it finds a buyer I don’t suspect we’ll be getting production or distribution info anytime soon.
