While co-writer and director Scott Derrickson has officially left Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, there have been signs that casting for the sequel is still underway with the May production start is still moving forward according to trade reports.

We know that WandaVision and Loki shows from Disney+ are gong to be impacting the sequel, we don’t know a lot about the film’s villains (despite previous teases Nightmare was wanted by Scott Derrickson) and while Nightmare was assumed the character hasn’t been confirmed.

A new tidbit might shine a light one potential villain in the film.

Backstage has posted a possible early synopsis for the Marvel Studios film, however, the validity of the information can’t be confirmed and very well could be a placeholder for the project. We’re considering it a rumor for the time being.

After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Dr Stephen Strange continues his research on the Time Stone. But an old friend-turned-enemy puts an end to his plans and causes Strange to unleash unspeakable evil.

If true/real, it sounds like we’ll be seeing the return of Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Baron Mordo from the first film back as one of the villains. Mordo had been lined-up at the end of Doctor Strange as someone now at odds with Strange after his misuse of the Time Stone.

Then again, it could also be referring to Wanda.

Elizabeth Olsen is co-starring with Benedict Cumberbatch, as we’ll see Strange and Scarlet Witch paired-up in the film. Benedict Wong is expected to reprise the role of Wong as well.

There have been unconfirmed rumors circulating for months that supporting characters such as Clea and Brother Voodoo could be showing up in the sequel as well.

HN Entertainment had previously confirmed that production on Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness would be taking place at Pinewood Studios UK, which has recently been used for Black Widow and Eternals.

If Marvel is indeed currently casting the film this would suggest that they might have already found a replacement for Derrickson and just haven’t officially made the announcement public.

The sequel is seemingly still on track for a release on May 7th, 2021.
