A sixth Pirates of The Caribbean film has been on Disney’s radar for two years now and it sounds like they’re now considering casting actors.
When I originally reported that Disney was still moving along with development for Pirates of The Caribbean 6 in the summer of 2018, the return of Jack Sparrow/Johnny Depp was questionable something that was a key point raised in the write-up. In wake of the James Gunn firing by Disney (later rehired), it seemed like Johnny Deep’s removal from the franchise was extremely likely as the family-friendly company likely didn’t want to the headache of having him attached to the next film.
HN Entertainment then posted the rumor that Disney was mulling over the use of Redd to replace Jack Sparrow, a character directly tied to the amusement park ride the films are based on.
Some writers that Disney had tasked to write the sixth installment included Deadpool’s Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, however, they would exit leading to Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin to tackle rewrites alongside Ted Elliot.
A new Patreon post from Daniel Richtman (spotted by Knight Edge Media) suggests that the project will indeed be a reboot and that Marvel Studios actress Karen Gillan is being eyed for a lead role.
Karen is best known for her role as Nebula in Guardians of The Galaxy, Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. She also has a leading role in the last two Jumanji films for Sony Pictures, which are equally successful.
We may suspect that Karen Gillan might be wanted for Redd, however, her role wasn’t named.
When filming could begin or who might direct remains to be seen.
