It’s been announced that Phil Lord and Chris Miller have moved from Fox Television to Sony Pictures TV, in a new five-year development deal according to TheHollywoodReporter. The move is in the wake of their Oscar win for the Sony animated film Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and they’ll be developing original shows which might include Spider-Man related projects for television and streaming.
Hot on the heels of the animated feature Oscar win for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and in a competitive situation with multiple outlets bidding, the writing, producing and directing duo have inked a five-year overall deal that sources value in the nine-figure range.
Under the pact, Lord and Miller will create and develop their own comedy and drama projects for broadcast, cable, and streaming as well as supervise other writers’ projects. Additionally, the pair will also be involved in developing a suite of television series based on Sony’s universe of Marvel characters. Also possibly on the table: all the (beloved) characters from Into the Spider-Verse.
There had been previous chatter that Sony was strongly considering television series focusing on Spider-Verse characters such as John Mulaney’s breakout Spider-Ham. It’ll be interesting what original comedic projects they’ll come up with as they were involved with the Last Man On Earth.
