Warner Bros. has made it official that character actor Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood, Looper, Prisoners) has now taken the role of rogue Edward Nashton aka The Riddler in The Batman according to TheHollywoodReporter.
Dano is an excellent and inspired choice for the Riddler, in my opinion.
Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street, Moneyball) has been reportedly circling the role before talks broke down the other day.
Yesterday, Deadline suggested that comedic actor Seth Rogen (The Green Hornet) was being considered to play fellow villain The Penguin. However, they’re simply interested as an offer or talks have yet to happen.
Dano will join Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, and Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon.
Matt Reeves (Dawn of The Planet of The Apes) co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin (Little Fish) and will also direct.
Filming will primarily take place next year at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Watford, England.
This is said to be the first installment of a brand new Batman trilogy starring Pattinson and there are unconfirmed reports that the movies are going to introduce Bat-family members (possibly Dick Grayson and Batgirl).
I can’t wait to hear the other cast members they’ll be announcing in the next couple of days/weeks.
The Batman has been set for a release date of June 25th, 2021.
