TheHollywoodReporter reveals that young actress Cailee Spaeny (Bad Times At The El Royale, Pacific Rim: Uprising) in is negotiations to take a lead role in Sony’s remake of the 1990s teen horror flick The Craft.
The story centers on Hannah, a high school outcast who falls into a friendship with three other young women and begins experimenting with witchcraft. They unleash a power that at first seems to solve problems in their lives but slowly consumes them with unforeseen costs.
Filming on the contemporary remake written and directed by Zoe Lister-Jones is said to begin next month. Curious to see what other actresses they end up hiring against Cailee.
Cailee can next be seen in the Alex Garland (Annihilation, Dredd, Ex Machina) series Devs on FX.
I remember the original as being one of the cooler flicks of the era alongside Scream, but we’ve seen how studios have tried to cash-in on quicky remakes. Hopefully, having Jason Blum and his production company Blumhouse involved might be how this doesn’t end up a forgettable generic mess like recent remakes such as The Flatliners or Blair Witch.
Anyways, I’ll remain open-minded as I truly loved the original.
