Last month, we reported that Fox was mulling over two ideas for live-action series for their Alien franchise with one being produced by Ridley Scott. I first reported a live-action series being talked about at Fox back in July, when I was still over at OmegaUnderground.
I think many in the fan community believed we were mistaken about the project, thinking we were mixing it up with the Alien: Isolation animated series was about to be released on IGN. However, that was never the case and we have some trade news now backing up HN Entertainment’s previous reporting that Fox was indeed considering a live-action series or at least talking about it internally.
Deadline backs up our reporting that Fox was mulling over a live-action Alien series and has shared some brief details buried in one of their Disney-Fox merger articles. Not only that, but Legion and Fargo series creator Noah Hawley was attempting to put together a miniseries for FX and producer Emma Watts was reluctant. Also, seems to infer that any future Alien projects (television or film) after the merger with Disney could potentially still have the involvement of Ridley Scott’s production company Scott Free, as he’s expected to stay on at Fox along with his upcoming feature Merlin for Disney.
Ridley Scott’s Scott Free seems also a good bet to stay: beyond the next Aliens installment that he’s working on, Scott is expected to next direct Merlin, a live-action movie on the formative years of the wizard, for Disney.
Sources said that in the recent past she fended off an attempt by Hawley and FX to take the Aliens franchise and turn it into a miniseries…
The future fate of this project is a little less clear. With Stacey Snider leaving 20th Century Fox as Disney’s Alan Horn will be overseeing the studio, there is a very good chance the roadblocks to this miniseries could be removed and might actually end up on FX, or even Hulu as we previously suggested. Then again, it might never see the light of day.
