In July, I broke the news at OmegaUnderground that Gina Prince-Bythewood would be pivoting from Spider-Man spin-off Silver and Black to direct a comic book film for Skydance based on Greg Rucka’s The Old Guard (published by Image Comics), which could be released by Netflix.
Deadline now reports that Oscar-winner Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road, Prometheus, Atomic Blonde) and If Beale Street Could Talk actress KiKi Layne will be taking lead roles in The Old Guard. They also confirm it’s landed at Netflix.
UPDATE: Netflix has confirmed the casting report.

The script was penned by Rucka himself.
A small group of soldiers, led by a woman named Andy, who are inexplicably immortal and have been working as mercenaries through the ages. The novelty of not dying long gone, the group gets a jolt in their bones when they discover the existence of a new immortal, a black woman serving in the Marines, at the same time as a nefarious organization captures their undying actions on camera.
Despite delays on the film it’s still expected they would be filming The Old Guard in the United Kingdom, Paris, and Morocco.
HN Entertainment recently confirmed that production designer Paul Kirby was part of The Old Guard’s production team. Kirby’s credits include Kingsman: The Secret Service, Jason Bourne, and the new Hellboy movie.
A release date for The Old Guard has yet to be announced.
