Oscar-Winner Angelina Jolie Is Reportedly In Talks To Join Marvel’s ‘The Eternals’

With Avengers: Endgame looking to end The Infinity Saga next month, Marvel has already been looking towards the future of the franchise and developing a brand new cosmic franchise based on the obscure Jack Kirby characters The Eternals. Now, there is a very impressive casting report for the film and I don’t think a lot of people were expecting this name to show up.

TheHollywoodReporter has now revealed that Oscar-winning actress and sometime director Angelina Jolie is now in talks for a role in Marvel Studios’ The Eternals directed by rising talent Chloe Zhao (The Rider, Nomadland). Her role is being kept under wraps but considering being one of the first names to be made public it suggests she’ll end up with a major role in the film.

Angelina Jolie is getting ready to make her first foray into the world of superhero movies. The Oscar-winning actress is in talks to star in Marvel Studios’ The Eternals, a superhero team adventure feature being directed by Chloe Zhao.

Joile hasn’t tackled the genre since co-starring in Universal’s Wanted opposite a babyfaced James McAvoy before playing Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class(the film also had Guardians of The Galaxy actor Chris Pratt in a small role). She has, however, worked a lot with Disney recently with Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and The One and Only Ivan.

Her role isn’t being named but there are luckily plenty of female roles in the film including longtime team members Seris and Thena. There is also a character being called “Karen” in character breakdowns which may or may not be Margo Damian.

Zhao might have been a huge reason for the interest from Jolie as her upcoming film Nomadland features two-time Oscar-winner Frances McDormand and has been impressing the film festival crowd with her last picture The Rider.

The Eternals are a group of humans that had their DNA tinkered with by the Celestials (seen in Guardians of The Galaxy) giving them god-like power and they eventually left Earth to venture into the cosmos. The sub-groups messed with by cosmic beings included Eternals, the more grotesque looking Deviants, and humans that would later have powers hidden in their genes activated becoming Mutants. There is a strong chance that this film explains where mutants got their powers and possibly detailing the mutant gene’s origin.

An interesting character that was brought-up by our friends over at ThatHashtagShow includes a “Greek god played by an openly gay actor” while some have suggested this could be Eros aka Starfox, he was already listed in character breakdowns alongside this unnamed “Greek god” character. There is a very very good chance who this character ends up being revealed to be the Marvel version of Hercules, given that Olympia and Olympus could be easily combined along with the Eternals characters already lifting their names from Greek mythology. Both Sersi and Hercules eventually became full members of the Avengers.

I already have someone I’d like to see play Hercules.

I personally, would love to see Luke Evans take the role as the Welsh actor is gay and has many established blockbuster credits with Disney’s billion-dollar hit Beauty and The Beast, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, The Hobbit: Battle of The Five Armies, Fast and Furious 6, and has played Greek gods before such as Zeus in Immortals (opposite future Superman actor Henry Cavill) and played Apollo in Clash of The Titans. To me, he comes off as the strongest candidate for a role like this having such a high-profile/global awareness and a massive amount of proximity to MCU actors.

It also helps that Luke is also already working out before even landing a Marvel gig and having the build they’d like be seeking for a character like Hercules.

A release date for The Eternals hasn’t been made official by Marvel Studios.
