When it was announced that American musician Billie Eilish would be singing the theme for Daniel Craig’s No Time To Die, the 25th film in the James Bond franchise, we were excited to hear what she would do.
Here is what Eilish said when she was originally announced.
EILISH: “It feels crazy to be a part of this in every way. To be able to score the theme song to a film that is part of such a legendary series is a huge honour. James Bond is the coolest film franchise ever to exist. I’m still in shock.”
Well, Billie has now dropped the official audio for the theme via Vevo on YouTube and you can listen to the full song below.
Both Skyfall and Spectre saw themes win Best Song at the Oscars, which could mean that like Adele and Sam Smith, Billie might be poised to land an Oscar to go along with her multiple Grammys.
It’s a little early to talk Oscar buzz in February, a year away from next year’s ceremony, but the song is easily stronger that Sam Smith’s Spectre theme.
Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help.
The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
The cast will include Daniel Craig as James Bond, Lea Seydoux as Madeleine Swann, Rami Malek (Bohemian Rapsody) as a new villain named Safin (rumored to be a version of Dr. No), Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Felix Leiter, Ralph Fiennes (The King’s Man) as M, Christoph Waltz returning as Spectre’s Blofeld, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny, Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel) as Nomi aka the new Agent 007, Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049) as Paloma, Ben Whishaw as Q, Billy Magnussen, Rory Kinnear as Bill Tanner, David Dencik, and Dali Benssalah.
The Dark Knight and Inception composer Hans Zimmer will be creating the film’s score. He’s also currently working on the score for Denis Villeneuve’s science-fiction epic Dune.
This will be the final time Daniel Craig will be playing the James Bond with screenwriter Phoebe Waller-Bridge (No Time To Die, Fleabag, Killing Eve) is reportedly in talks with EON/MGM to write the script for Bond 26, which is expected to have a new actor in the Bond role.
Producers have suggested while they’re open to the new James Bond by being played by actors of any race, they’re keen on keeping him male as that was how he was written.
I’m extremely curious to see if EON will end up giving Lynch’s 00 Agent Nomi her own spinoff franchise as fans have been clamoring for a female Bond.
Franchise co-owner MGM has reportedly opened the door for a possible sale worth $10 billion and it remains to be seen if anyone will end up buying them.
No Time To Die is set for a release date of April 8th.
