Earlier today, Nintendo held their Nintendo Direct presentation at E3 2019, where they revealed and showed off many new games coming to the Nintendo Switch, with the first of those reveals being the next DLC fighter coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Following the previously released DLC Fighters of Piranha Plant and Joker from Persona 5 will be characters from the popular JRPG Dragon Quest. The cinematic trailer shows The Luminary, the player character from Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, coming in to save other Smash Bros. fighters from enemies in the games adventure mode. The trailer then shows three more Dragon Quest characters that appear to be costumes similar to how the Koopalings work, these three characters are the protagonists from Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation, Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen, Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. Each of the new additions have their own names within the Dragon Quest games, like The Luminary and Erdrick, but they will all take up one spot on the growing roster as The Hero.

These four Dragon Quest characters aren’t the only characters from the series in the game, though, with the rest of the protagonists from the other games joining in the Heroes final smash. Also shown was some of the moveset for the characters, including MP that can be used to cast from a list of four spells, including Sizzle, Psyche Up, Oomph, and Snooze. The trailer also shows various other abilities like a metal shield and a kamikaze attack.

The update featuring the addition of these new fighters will come out later this summer, with Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age being ported to the Nintendo Switch in September.

Later in the Nintendo Direct presentation, they revealed another new fighter coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The reveal trailer for this next character was reminiscent of the reveal trailer for King K. Rool that featured another character already in Smash Bros. teasing the audience by pretending to be the silhouette of a highly requested character. In the case of this newest fighter, that character would be Banjo-Kazooie from the video game series of the same name. The developers of Banjo-Kazooie, also made the classic game Donkey Kong Country, so this reveal trailer was a nice little nod to their long history with Nintendo.

Banjo-Kazooie will be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in Fall of 2019.

The new fighters can be individually purchased for $5.99 each, or you can purchase the Fighters Pass for $24.99 that includes the two just announced characters, as well as the previously released Joker, and the last two DLC fighters that are yet to be revealed. Each fighter pack comes with the character, a stage, and music from the series.
