Sony Pictures is seemingly excited by the prospect of a new Ghostbusters film from writer-director Jason Reitman, who has been behind films like Juno and Up In The Air. The son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, Jason is making a film that would be set in the existing cinematic universe and could allow original actors to reprise their roles.
The new film is said to focus on a family that returns to a small town.
On the production front, our pals at DiscussingFilm are reporting a rumor that Ghostbusters might begin filming on May 13th, although they don’t mention a filming location.

I’m sure we’ll get some confirmation in the coming weeks.
Ivan Reitman and Dan Akroyd will act as producers on the new film which makes sense if it’ll be set in the same cinematic universe of the original two films. The Paul Feig film decided to be a complete reboot and would likely mean that those characters wouldn’t be involved, which has seemingly angered both Paul and cast members.
Sony Pictures has already set the release date for the new Ghostbusters film on July 10th, 2020.
