Earlier today, a casting rumor from ThatHashtagShow revealed that Emma Watts was on shortlist of young actresses being looked at for a new “female Bond” role in Marvel’s Black Widow solo film starring Scarlett Johansson. The other ladies mentioned included Alice Englert, Dar Zuzovsky, and Florence Pugh.

Now, they claim some other names are in being eyed for various roles in the Marvel Studios action film as well. Those new names include recent Oscar-nominee Rachel Weisz (The Favourite, The Bourne Legacy, Enemy At The Gates), Andre Holland (Castle Rock, Moonlight, Selma, The Knick), Alec Baldwin (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) and German actor Sebastian Koch (Bridge of Spies, Black Book, The Danish Girl).

Holland is seemingly being eyed for an unspecified villain role.

We’ve learned that with preproduction currently underway in London, auditions for the role of the villain were taking place as recently as early this week and that Andre Holland read for the role.

We’ve also learned a bit more about a pair of roles on which we’ve previously reported. The film will feature an older male and older female in supporting roles. These roles, it seems, are tied together and will be playing Americans in the film and there is some indication that they may be working with the film’s main villain. The studio is interested in exploring some big names here with Rachel Weisz in the mix for the female role and actors such as Sebastian Koch and Alec Baldwin mentioned for the male role.

HN Entertainment previously confirmed that filming on Black Widow would be taking place at Pinewood Studios UK. It’s said that filming will begin sometime in June.

Cate Shortland is directing from a script penned by Jac Schaeffer (Captain Marvel, Vision and Scarlet Witch) and is undergoing some rewrites from Ned Benson according to Collider.

Black Widow is currently without an official release date but there is an assumption that the previously announced May 1st, 2020 spot for an unnamed Marvel Studios film will end up reserved for this project.
