Check out larger versions of the concept artwork below which focuses on the coastal areas near the oceans of Pandora. The new movies will be focusing on a tribe/clan of Na’vi from these spots.
Avatar recently took a hiatus on the live-action section of production in New Zealand as we’ve previously reported has been using the working title of Coral, a direct nod to the films’ connection to the oceans of Pandora.
Filming had been taking place at Stone Street Studios in Wellington.
The cast of the sequels includes Kate Winslet, Sam Worthington, Cliff Curtis, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Michelle Yeoh, Oona Chaplin, Edie Falco, and Brandan Cowell.
As a producer, James Cameron had a bit of a box office hiccup in 2019 as both Alita: Battle Angel (despite chatter of potential sequels) and Terminator: Dark Fate (also had two more films planned) failed to hit box office goals, the latter flopping.
Jim has been quite bold recently predicting that Avatar 2 would regain the box office title from Avengers: Endgame, hopefully, the ten-year gap between installments wasn’t a mistake.
Work on Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 as been seemingly minimal as the focus has been completing the first two sequels.
Here are the release dates of the next four Avatar sequels.
- Avatar 2 – December 17th, 2021
- Avatar 3 – December 22nd, 2023
- Avatar 4 – December 19th, 2025
- Avatar 5 – December 17th, 2027
On the lush alien world of Pandora live the Na’vi, beings who appear primitive but are highly evolved. Because the planet’s environment is poisonous, human/Na’vi hybrids, called Avatars, must link to human minds to allow for free movement on Pandora. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a paralyzed former Marine, becomes mobile again through one such Avatar and falls in love with a Na’vi woman (Zoe Saldana). As a bond with her grows, he is drawn into a battle for the survival of her world.
