It was recently reported by Variety that a new Star Wars series for Disney+ is in the works at Lucasfilm from Russian Doll co-creator and showrunner Leslye Headland.
The only details mentioned in the report are that the timeline would be different from other projects and would be female-centric (the other three shows being male-centric).
It should be noted that Lucasfilm has yet to announce the project officially.
There had been rumblings that with Rosario Dawson playing Ahsoka Tano in Season 2 of The Mandalorian it could lead to a solo spinoff series, although, it’s unconfirmed if we’ll be seeing the live-action version of Tano beyond The Mandalorian.
At one point, there had been a report from BuzzFeed about a feature film project set during The Old Republic from screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis (Ghost In The Shell, Avatar, Altered Carbon, Alita: Battle Angel). Both The Mandalorian and Kenobi series originally started as film projects before being turned into streaming series instead, which could mean that something like this “Old Republic film” could be given the small screen treatment as well.
A string of upcoming novels and comic books would be tackling The High Republic era, set 200 years before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, however, it has yet to be announced they would be giving that era a live-action treatment.
I’m slightly curious if they’ll attempt something completely original but that is only just a hope.
Are you excited for a fourth live-action series on Disney+?
